Daddy brought Donald to do one thing he liked very much during his own childhood days…catching drain fish!
We just moved to Bukit Timah but were unsure whether there are any longkang around our place, so we went straight to the one behind Cedar Girls’ School, the same longkang that Daddy used to catch fish when he was young.

Donald was really sporting, and didn’t mind his crocs and feet getting wet with the slimy feeling longkang water.
Daddy swore that he saw a big catfish and was really determined to catch it!
But alas (and thank goodness), the fish escaped!

There were lots of Mimosa there, and Donald had fun touching them and making them close.
When we got home, Donald kept telling me “Mummy, I want to touch that green flower, the one can open and close one….”

Donald stopped in his tracks and said “Mummy, there is that something in my croc shoe…“
I thought it was just a leaf and didn’t bother but he insisted to take off his croc shoe and guess what we found?
A Fish!
We caught nothing with the net, yet the FIRST fish we caught was with Donald’s croc shoe!!!
(the news is… the fish did not survive….poor thing)

Look….they have the ???!

End Result…we brought home 5 small fish, put them into a fish tank and these are going to be Donald’s 1st pets.

so wonderful to read about how a dad shares his past experiences with his son. you all would have realised that catching these little critters required team-work. one person would have to place the net in the path of the moving fish and another person who have to shoo the fish into the net. even then, the fish would still try their best to avoid getting into the trap. very nice pictures.
i have linked your post to my posting on longkang fishing here .
hi, was searching for a place do do longkang fishing with my kids & saw your blog. would you bea able to describe exactly this spot in your blog? maybe do a “Placemark” on google earth?thanks.
Hello Bro,
Seen a similar youtube clip (okto) abour guppy fishing behind cedar girls sec. went there, searched around but didn’t see any drain that looked like the one in your blog. My kids kept asking me to bring them there. Pls HELP by maybe showing exactly how to get to the drain. I myself is crazy about guppies, but nothing beats catching them myself,….. with my KIDS!
Looking forward to your reply thru my email “william81888655@yahoo.com.sg” .
THANKS!!!
Hi William
Actually, the voice narrating the longkang fishing place in the okto’s film – old places, is actually my husband!
Anyway, they are launching the DVD on that show on 7th may at kinokuniya.
My husband says, the location is on cedar avenue, pass cedar pri school, just before you turn out into Upper Aljunied Road. The drain is directly pointing towards Joo Seng Road. Hope this helps!
