Welcome Elizabeth Chan!

December 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Uncategorized

FINALLY! FINALLY! I survived the 9 months!  The ordeal is finally over!

Welcome Elizabeth Chan Chien Wen 陈芊文, born in the early morning of 15th December 2008, weighing 3.05kg, 50cm, head circumference 33cm.  She was 36wks and 6 days.  Agpar score was 9 and then 10 after 5 min.

I chose to undergo epidural c-section, and Daddy came into the OT with me.  Daddy kept commenting at how “funny” i am, while the doc is operating on me, I turned around and asked Daddy whether he was ok! LOL!

Elizabeth came out really “white”, unlike the other 2, more bloody.   She was brought to be warmed up, so they couldn’t bring her to me even though i kept asking for her.  For the 2 hours until Lizzie was brought to my room, I tried to sleep but couldn’t because I really wanted them to bring Lizzie to me.

Lizzie is very different in many ways.  She is the only one we manage to conceive “easily”, we prayed just before xxx and only had 1 shot, Toria and Donald was conceived after many many months of “hard work”.  At birth, she has the most-est and the blackest hair among the 3, and she is the only one with obvious double eye-lids at birth. AND she has O+ blood!  Daddy, me, Donald and Toria, all have A+ blood group!  I didn’t study biology, so you can imagine the shock and surprise when Dr Yip, the PD, came to my ward the next morning to tell me the blood group.  I thought something went wrong! LOL!

Oma stayed over at my place to sleep with the kids, she told me that 6plus in the morning, the kids were already up and excited to come and see us in the hospital.

They came and saw the baby, and then Mummy gave out the presents that Lizzie “bought” for them.  They were so so happy!

Donald was especially excited about Lizzie, maybe because he is 4 now, he understands.  He is soooo doting and protective and proud of his little sister Lizzie.  Insisting to carry her all the time, loving her, touching her, “sayang-ing” her.  Toria, on the other hand, seems not able to grasp the reality yet…maybe cos she is only 2, so a little blur.  But she also kept looking and touching Lizzie, wanting to carry her as well.

Ah Gong came back from his overseas business trip, and specially booked ticket to fly back to China on 15/12 night, so that he can have his first glimpse of his 3rd grandchild!

Auntie Sherrie also brought Joshua and Sarah to visit us.  She was exceptionally sweet, she even prepared presents for Donald and Toria.  She calls it the Big Gor Gor and Big Jie Jie presents. Thanks Sherrie!

In any case, my kids really missed having me at home with them, and putting them to bed.  They came and “sayang” me in their own ways.  Here are some pix of Toria loving me.  One of the mornings when I was still in hospital, Donald actually couldn’t sleep well, he woke up real early and called me on the phone, telling me that he can’t sleep cos the bed is cold… so I got Daddy to bring him to the hospital to me.  He laid on my hospital bed with me and fell asleep, and slept a good 3 hours.  He kept asking me when I am coming home.  So instead of staying the full 3 nights as paid in the package, I only stayed 2 nights and requested to go home, anyway, I really felt good and painless, so back home I went… and my whole family was glad and relieved.

I must say that, after going through natural birth with epidural and episiotomy, c-section under GA and c-section under epidural, I really prefer c-section under epidural the most.  I recovered very very well, it was pretty much painless, only felt some uncomfortable moments when they were tugging and pulling my tummy wide open.  Post op, I was doing so well that when they offered painkillers, I told them I really didn’t need them.  Dr Chin had to insist I take 1 pill at least, instead of 2, so as to manage the pain as I move around more.  Or maybe my tummy is numb already?  LOL! Well, it is a known fact that the more you give birth, the more experienced you are, right? :D
