Nanyang Alumni CNY Celebration

February 7th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Nanyang Alumni organised a CNY celebration event for the 3 Nanyang schools to get together.  This year it was held at the new NYGH campus on Linden Drive. (well, new to me… cos my days were spent at the old King’s road campus, which is actually Nanyang Primary now.)

I have yet to join the alumni, but was invited to attend this event because Donald, from Nanyang Kindergarten, was selected to represent his school in 2 cny song/dance item.

I was so happy to see many of the teachers who were teaching in NYGH during our times.  Couldn’t recall their names, but could recognise their faces.

I bumped into my principal, mdm 蔡亮 (Chua Liang) again at this event.  I had met her once before in 2008 when NY Kindergarten had a fund raising concert.  I sat next to her and asked her whether she remembered me which she couldn’t. (which i was quite relieved, cos I was likely the Naughtiest and most Notorious Girl in my batch).  But today, when I bumped into her, I greeted her just out of courtesy, but she turned around and said “I REMEMBER you now!” with a big smile on her face!

She told me that after the previous meet up, she went home and cracked her brain to recall who I was, and she finally remembered.  She remembered that I played basketball for the school, ran for the track n field team.  She even remembered giving out the “Sports Girl of the Year 1992″ award to me on the stage!

I was excited!  So I asked her cheekily, “so you remember all the good things only right?“, she answered cheekily, “the bad things too!” And we both laughed out loud!  My hubby, standing behind me, kaypo-ingly asked what “bad things” I did back in school days… I winked at Mdm Chua Liang to not let the cat out of the bag! Ha Ha Ha!

It is so nice to now meet 20 years down the road and know that there are no hard feelings…. and all can be laughed over.  So maybe we can learn from this in our parenting journey?  Something to ponder over.

I also saw my PE teacher, Mr Li.  He was already quite old when he was teaching us. Now, his hair is totally white but he still looks strong!  I went up to him and said “Mr Li!  I’m Bonita.  Don’t know if you remember me, but you used to teach me PE.”  He exclaimed “Bonita! Of course! I remember your name!  Track and Field right?  Hurdles?  I remember you! Did you join the Police force or something and continue your running???”  (good to have unique names huh?) (how did he know? I nearly joined the police force after graduating from university…hee hee hee.. quite glad I didn’t.)

Anyway, I AM quite amazed at their good memory.  Is that a pre-requisite to be in the teaching line? Hmmm…

I also met Ms Sim, who was my Accounting teacher in RJC days.  She is handling admin and HR now for NYGH.

ok…back to Donald…

For the 1st item, he was placed at the side which we could see him very well, so we took a video of him.  It is really funny, you need to see it!  He had this “aiyah” look on his face, knowing that we are filming him.  He rolled his eyes and folded his arms when he had no partner to turn to for the “gong xi gong xi” action. He will “tsk tsk” sometimes and look at his shoes… then when finally the girl next to him hold his hands for a swinging action, he is happy, ecstatic in fact.  What a great variety of expressions for just 1 dance! Must play this on his wedding day!

For 2nd item, he was placed on the 2nd row, in the middle, so couldn’t see him very well, so didn’t film him.
