We were supposed to leave on 29th May, when our newly employed maid of 4 days dropped a bomb on us. Â She said she think she cannot handle 3 kids! Anyway, that’s a whole other story, will share that in another post.
She told us at about 730pm, the agency is closed, so there’s no way I could send her back. Â She said she can follow us for the trip first, but NO WAY man, why would I bring her along when she has no heart to work for us? Â So we had to delay our departure for 1 day, so that we can send her back to the agent before leaving.
We left at about 1030pm, all the kids slept in the car, all the way till we reached Ipoh.
Daddy drove all the way till we reached Ipoh at 730am the next morning. Â Oma sat in front and munched on snacks the whole time to stay awake together with him. Â I sat at the back with the kids, and took cat naps. Â Exhausting man. Â But surprisingly, the kids were fine, like on business class! Â Blankets, head rests, laid back seats, feet up… thank goodness we bought the Alphard.
Kong Heng was not open yet, so we went to the next street and had some “appetizer” in the supposedly original “old town coffee shop”. Â There’s a pix of the chee cheong fun, but seriously we didn’t like it, too starchy and sticky…

We went to Kong Heng next, to have the Ipoh Hor Fun. Â THAT was nice. Â But Howie (my sister’s boyfriend who is from Ipoh) says that there are nicer places than Kong Heng, so will need him to bring us there next time!

After breakfast, we continued driving to Penang, went to the Butterworth Ferry Terminal and took the ferry across.

We stayed at The Gurney. Â We took a bigger room, so that it could fit all 6 of us. Â Daddy bought 2 blow up beds from Coleman, so he and Oma slept on the floor. Â We pushed the 2 singles together for me and the 3 kids. Â The room was so big that we decided to ask for the cot bed, so that I can have some decent sleep for the early part of the night.
By the time we checked in, it was quite late. Â So we rushed out for lunch. Â Without much recce, we just settled for the 1st shop we passed… BIG MISTAKE, the Bak Kut Teh was lousy! Â Anyway, it was here that I taught Donald and Toria how to cool off their fingers after touching hot stuff, by using the ear lobes.

Daddy HAD to have the thing that he came to Penang for… the Air Hitam’s Assam Laksa. Â Quite famous, featured in many food shows. Â Personally, I don’t like it, so sour. Â I much prefer our Katong Laksa…
On one hand, Daddy loves to drive around in Malaysia, BUT on the other hand, he is super paranoid about our safety and the safety of our car.  So most places he goes to eat, we just sat in the car and wait…yah..ALL of us.. the kids, Oma and me! (that’s why i think this type of driving hols is no fun, only fun for him!
)

Daddy was zonked, so we decided to have an early night. Â We walked to Gurney Drive to have our dinner. Â WHAT a long walk from our hotel… hiaz… Daddy could hardly walk straight! Â But after the kids slept, he still managed sneak both of us out for a quick walk to “nowhere”, a drink and a ramly burger.
