China Trip Day 3

November 14th, 2009 · No Comments · Trips

Woke up early in the morning and peered out of the train window, what a beautiful snow scene! Reached Tumen train station at 6.30am.

At the train station and in the car, on the way to Hunchun.

My dad’s god-daughter, Wang Ping, drove all the way to the train station, from 5am in the morning, to fetch us.  But the road was super wet and slippery, that she lost control of the vehicle and crashed down a slope into a field!  We took a taxi to meet her at the accident spot. Thank goodness she was alright, but her front bumper was damaged, and she had to spend a bomb for the tow truck to lift her car back to the road, and to repair the car.  We were so pai seh!

My dad has a rented apartment there, so I stayed with him.  The room floor was nice and warm, a welcoming treat for the cold winter.

I went to their market for a walk.

This area is very near to North Korea, and alot of 朝鲜族的人stay there, and one of their favorite delicacy is…. DOG MEAT!  I found a store that sells raw dog meat!  Gross!

That night, for dinner, my contact brought me to eat seafood brought in from North Korea! The prawns were really special.  Their strips on the body is very different from ours, and the taste is really fresh and sweet.  I also liked the crab, abit like the Alaska Hairy Crab, but seems much more hairy… yummy!  While in China, I learned to drink beer while having dinner, and to toast and knock glass with everyone else and say something nice when you want to drink your beverage.  Yes!  Each and Every Time!  Fun!
