Here is Isabella at Week 30 scan. She is showing us that she has big feet? Tall girl I hope!
Dr Chin had some worrying news for us today.
I have placenta previa, which is low lying placenta, covering the cervix, which means I have to go for c-sec, which is fine for me.
But because this is my 3rd c-sec, she cannot exclude placenta previa accreta, which is abnormal adhesion of the placenta to the uterus. There are 3 levels of seriousness. It could range from just a tight adhesion to the womb, or more severely to the womb muscle, or worse to an organ like the bladder. The placenta will not be able to detach properly from the womb, and thus resulting in severe bleeding.
She plans to send me for a detailed scan to see the severity of the placenta previa accreta. She actually wanted me to deliver at SGH, so that it is nearer to the blood bank. I actually googled my condition, and that 50% of my cases neede blood transfusion. But my HB was too low, and donating my own blood for my own use is not possible.
She also plans to have a 2nd gynae in the op-theatre with her. I thought it was more for 2nd opinion, but she said it is not, it is actually another pair of good hands, working at the same time, in case of emergency detrimental situation. She also plans to have a surgeon, who specialises in blood vessels, on standby in case they need to sew up any blood vessel in cases of severe bleeding. She had also pre-warned me that in case of severe bleeding, hysterectomy will be done, ie removal of the womb.
Sounds scary right? But she said she has to lay down everything transparently in front of us so that we are informed. She said, most often than not, when we are overly prepared, usually nothing happens.
We had actually planned for a c-sec date on week 38, but she actually advised us not to wait till week 38. Because it might go into an emergency situation. She prefers us to plan for a date around 35-36weeks, and that having everyone on standby is better than having an emergency c-sec in the middle of the night and she can’t get the doc that she needs with her. I actually also googled about my situation and that the info came back that it is most benefical for the baby and the mummy to deliver by elective around week 34-36, because of chances of slipping into emergency situations.
So now, we shifted forward our dates, and now left with 6 weeks to prepare! On one hand, I am very happy cos that means I can shorten my pregnancy “agony”!
I believe that being prepared is good, and that I will come out of this unscathed. Please pray for me. Thanks.

Praying for you Bonita! The Lord will keep you and baby safe.
